Remember that you are the sea
by Sarah Curtis
recorded in Glastonbury Assembly Rooms, March 2001
Beauty comes from deep within... Dont have to be pretty here... Dont be scared.. missing a crime look at the ravens? Dont pretend to... Remember that you are the sea Remember that you are the sea Remember that you are the sea
(What Noisy Fairies!) Johnny get up and go to school you'll be late and made a fool some day soon you'll be a big towering man you can walk all over this aching land Mother used to say it would be all right if we all put our feet inside the grave Get your books, or get your gun i dont mind which, it's either one we're taught to be stangled beauty is?? observed difficult natures are not preferred and what we gained, was what we thought we'd lost and what?? came after, was??? beyond the cost Saints and sinners, lovers and friends when shall be back back together again And what we gained was what we thought we'd lost and who came after, were beyond the cost Saints and sinners, lovers and friends when shall we back together again?
Tribal people walking hand in hand, walking the ancient paths across this land breathing in the whispers of the deserts sands I heard nature calling my name swimming in the oceans of eternity as the dolphins splashed around of me carrying their message far beyond the sea nature's calling my name and the message is clear and the words rang true that the spirits alive in me and you feel the love as she embraces you nature's calling your name. nature's calling your name nature's calling your name nature's calling your name nature's calling your name butterflies dancing across the sky signal changes in my mind floating free on a summer's day nature's calling my name and the message is clear and the words rang true that the spirit's alive in me and you feel the love as she embraces you nature's calling your name nature's calling your name nature's calling your name nature's calling your name nature's calling your name seven sisters call to me they carry the seeds of our ancestry pulsing light to every part of me nature's calling my name and the message is clear and the words rang true that the spirits alive in me and you feel the love as she embraces you nature's calling your name x 4 Come feel the earth Come heal the earth Come feel the earth Come heal the earth

I'm a light brown coconut turned inside out Scraped dry by expectations I act like a lout Cursing and spitting arms flailing I'm mad I shout from the rooftops I'm me so I am And if you don't like it then fuck off and die. But instead I sit demurely have another cup of tea Does my hair look ok,shall I wear this sari? Are you covered in chocolate Does it come off in the bath Don't get upset we're only having a laugh Cold curry for breakfast, love on a plate Kirribath and lunu miris, machung means mate Man I'm not lying when I say I am my roots I'm a tree with many branches,a strong standing oak Bo-tree with many branches been mistaken for a bloke Man.woman, black white beige We're all the fucking same I scream out in rage It's all the same old game I don't even know my name, Mel,Melissa,Melly,Smelly akki I might be Italian or even a paki A carib,an arab a gypsy rose lee Times I don't know who I really want to be. I'm a half and half baby,a mixed up kid Looking for answers I did what I did I did what I did what I had to do Beautiful skin colour wish I looked like you People say like I'm locked in a zoo Needing identity I'm all things and none Multi personality a schizophrenic on the run Running from myself I've been running so long I've screwed up my health Oh the stories I could tell of the things I have seen On my travels round myself to find out who I am In this world of dualities I feel like a sham Not black enough not white enough Not fucking mixed race enough Most of my life I've been a spectator At other peoples parties Halfcaste Traitor Me two three four five six Sticks and stones may break my bones But names will never I might be Italian or even a paki A carib,an arab,a gypsy rose lee I think I know who I want to be A masala of surprises a free floating dream Cos things are never quite what they seem Rainbow of possiblities, moon and the sun Skipping between worlds a goddess having fun I'm a zebra a panda a piebald pony If you speak to me softly my name means honey I'm a many petalled dog rose I'm a lotus on the water A child of the universe and a dutiful daughter. Me two walking between worlds. Me One.
27March2002 ~ CD5 Problems: 1) I've lost Cameron's CD - try again on Monday? 2) My CD-burning software wont do CD-enhanced audio and data 3) who are the two drummers? 4) plugin for browser to see the audio tracks on CD
tapes one two three and four were all perfect in their own ways, there was a thought that to do any more would be to cheapen it.
The CD Five that I'm mixing is mainly from the glastonbury assembly rooms gig in March 2001, with live audience sounds and mistakes.
Obviously Sarah's song the Sea is track one, most of the edits and choices I made came from listening to the raw master of the evening again and choosing the obvious. But some of the balances and counterbalances between tracks developed over time
I've been playing bits to people, Jes when he heard Symeon's set
enthused that its a fantastic raw and emotional performance,
and that bit about Nelson Mandela,
which is why its the centre of CD5,
in a way that Chrissy's Natures Calling'
which follows it also is a centre.
Perhaps 'focus' is a better word.
I dont want to replace it with a
pure and perfect studio version.
Tapes 1,2,3 and 4 were mostly recorded in one or two takes, (microphone on, begin, end, thankyou) and are wonderful and alive (but were the streams gurglings overdubbed?) but the extra ambience from a live audience gives TVCD5 its character.
Another variable is that Chrissys given me a perfecter version of 'Natures Calling', but im feeeling more and more that the rougher earlier version fits in better as track 7
mel's poem at the end uses strong language which worried me for a while, but its her language so let it be.
